Typical applications
Automated workflow
From continuous draw to automated cleaning and return, the skid operates autonomously to maintain water quality across the system lifetime.
A fixed percentage of the main system flow is continuously drawn from a low-velocity point in the return pipework. This ensures representative sampling of debris and particulate from across the entire loop.
Ferrous oxide (magnetite) and other magnetic debris are captured by a high-intensity rare-earth magnetic assembly. This is the primary defence against the black sludge that destroys seals, valves and heat exchangers.
Non-magnetic particulate passes through a depth-media cartridge rated from 5 to 100 micron depending on application. This removes sand, scale, installation debris and corrosion by-products.
Integrated DP sensors continuously measure pressure loss across the filter element. As the media loads, the control system tracks performance and raises an alert when a change-out is required — no guesswork.
On preset intervals or DP thresholds the skid initiates an automated backwash sequence. The magnetic rod is cleaned in-situ and the media vessel is flushed to drain — all without interrupting system flow.
Treated, debris-free water is returned to the main circuit at a point that promotes good distribution. The result is continuously improving water quality, reduced chemical demand and extended plant life.
System benefits
Continuous side stream filtration removes the root cause of premature plant failure — delivering measurable improvements in water quality, energy efficiency and asset life.
Continuous removal of magnetite and oxygen-laden sludge halts the corrosion cycle inside closed loops.
Cleaner system water means longer asset life for boilers, pumps, valves and heat exchangers.
Visible improvement in water quality — black, sludge-laden circuits return to clean, clear condition.
No filter bags or mixed media to swap out — eliminates the recurring consumables bill of bag filtration.
Removing fouling from heat transfer surfaces brings boiler and HX performance back to design duty.
Fully automated backwash and self-cleaning — no operator intervention, no system downtime.
Technical specifications
Every skid is built from robust carbon steel housings with SS304 screens, delivering reliable automated filtration with minimal water loss and uninterrupted system flow.

Understanding what is power flushing central heating system infrastructure is essential for any building services manager facing reduced thermal efficiency or pump failure. While traditionally used to clear heavy magnetite and debris from pipework, many commercial facilities are moving towards more sophisticated, continuous protection methods like side stream filtration to maintain BS 8552 compliance.
Read buyers guide · 10 minUnderstanding what is a side stream filter is critical for any facilities manager or consultant responsible for closed-loop heating and cooling systems. At its core, this technology continuously treats a portion of the circulating system water to remove suspended solids, ensuring long-term efficiency and compliance with BSRIA BG50 standards.
Read buyers guide · 9 minModern hydronic circuits in British commercial buildings depend on high-performance water filtration systems industrial solutions to maintain thermal efficiency and lifecycle longevity. As system energy targets tighten under Part L of the Building Regulations, selecting a robust side stream configuration is no longer optional but a critical requirement for BSRIA BG50 compliance. This guide examines technical selection criteria for contractors and consultants aiming to mitigate corrosion and suspended solids in large-scale closed-loop systems.
Read buyers guide · 11 minOptimising heat transfer efficiency in commercial HVAC environments requires a robust water filtration system industrial solution to combat the accumulation of magnetite and scale. Maintaining high-quality circulating water is not merely a preference but a necessity for BSRIA compliance and the longevity of high-value assets like plate heat exchangers and commercial boilers.
Read buyers guide · 10 minWhen plate heat exchangers begin to foul, facilities managers must decide between ultrasonic heat exchanger cleaning, chemical cleaning-in-place (CIP), or preventative filtration. Understanding the technical merits of ultrasonic heat exchanger cleaning versus permanent side stream systems is essential for maintaining BSRIA BG50 compliance and minimising operational downtime.
Read buyers guide · 9 minWater quality is the cornerstone of HVAC longevity and thermal efficiency in modern commercial buildings. Implementing a robust sidestream filter ensures that suspended solids and iron oxide sludge are removed before they can degrade expensive plant room components. By diverting a portion of the system flow through a high-efficiency media, a sidestream filter provides constant purification without interrupting the primary heating or cooling circuits, maintaining pressure and performance throughout the building lifecycle.
