Back to Commercial UV Water Filter overviewHow it works
UV-C light · peak wavelength 253.7 nm
UV-C light breaks down the DNA & RNA of bacteria, viruses and pathogens — preventing reproduction. Achieves up to 99.99% inactivation with zero chemicals, zero by-products and zero taste change.

Buyer’s guide
UKGP Commercial UV water filters use germicidal UV-C light at a peak wavelength of 253.7 nm — the exact frequency absorbed by microbial DNA and RNA. When water passes through the polished 316L stainless steel chamber, photons penetrate the cell walls of bacteria, viruses, protozoan cysts and algae, fusing thymine bases and permanently disabling reproduction. The result is up to 99.99% inactivation in a single pass, without dosing chemicals, without altering pH, taste, odour or colour, and without producing disinfection by-products such as trihalomethanes (THMs) or bromate.
For plant rooms, food & beverage lines, hospitals, hotels, breweries, dairies, cooling towers and pre-RO polishing duties, UV is now the default specification. It requires no chemical storage, no dosing pumps, no operator handling of hazardous substances, and no contact tank — the residence time is measured in seconds, not minutes. A correctly sized UKGP-UV chamber delivers a validated dose of ≥ 40 mJ/cm², the threshold recommended by NSF/ANSI 55 Class B and the US EPA UVDGM for the inactivation of E. coli, total coliform, Salmonella, Legionella, norovirus, hepatitis A, Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum.
Choosing the right UKGP-UV chamber comes down to four numbers: peak flow rate(m³/h), UV transmittance (UVT) of the water at 254 nm, the required log-reduction target, and the connection size of the existing pipework. Our range covers 5.5 m³/h to 150 m³/h across 23 chamber sizes, with threaded connections from DN20 up to DN150 flanged for the largest duties. As a rule of thumb, clean mains water (UVT ≥ 95%) lets the chamber operate at its full nameplate flow; borehole, rainwater or recycled water at UVT 75–85% typically requires up-sizing by one model. If you are unsure, send us your flow rate, water analysis and UVT and we will recommend the correct model the same day.
UKGP UV chambers install horizontally or vertically with the lamp access end clear for servicing. They are supplied wired and ready to commission — connect water, plug the ballast into a 230 V supply, open the inlet, vent the chamber, and you are disinfecting in under an hour. Ongoing operating cost is exceptionally low: a single annual lamp change, a quartz sleeve clean, and a wiper service if fitted. Compared with chlorine dosing — which carries chemical purchase, COSHH compliance, dosing-pump servicing and operator H&S costs — UV typically pays back in 18–24 months and runs unattended thereafter.
Every UKGP Commercial UV water filter is manufactured in the EU, CE marked, supplied with full O&M documentation and covered by a 4-year chamber warranty and a 12-month pro-rata lamp warranty. Lamps, sleeves and ballasts are held in UK stock for next-day dispatch. Wetted materials comply with WRAS guidance for potable duties; food-grade variants are available on request.
